Irish online architecture magazine - this is our tumblr channel, which may turn out to be a little more random in content than the main site and perhaps a bit more personal opinion.

Permalink Fantastic 1952 posters by British Railways to promote tourism in Ireland. Spot the architectural landmarks. The rendering of the Custom House in Dublin, with its elongated proportions makes it look more like one of the north of England’s city halls.
Permalink How to construct scaffolding for a tower build. Quite ingenious.
Permalink Fantastic modern shopfront on Mary Street in Dublin for Hipps & Co., tailors. Love how the electric signage is part of the layout. Must have looked very bold on a drawing board - strong black horizontals with signage in black and white. Now part of the Pennys store, the shopfront is gone.
At one stage Hipps & Co had a South Great George’s St. store, designed by George L. O’Connor. I’m not sure if they moved here, or had more than one store.
Permalink Sculpture on the Dublin Bus garage on Conyngham Road.
Permalink Beautiful illustration of Arnotts Store as completed, from a receipt book. Noteworthy for the symmetry of the adjacent buildings, labeling of functions on some nearby buildings, and the depiction of the top lit warehouse that was behind the store. The lettering and graphical design is particularly fine too.
Permalink Old Postcard montage of Winnipeg Buildings. Quite a few of these are no-more. Many were banks and in the wave of bank modernisation and mergers, were abandoned as branches.
Permalink August 1871, The Graphic Supplement on Belfast and its Industries.  Great imagery of the city in its Victorian swagger.
Permalink Laying of the foundation stone of the O’Connell Monument in 1864.
Permalink Odd remnant down in markets area of Dublin. Crude Dublin coat of arms attached.
Permalink A digital reconstruction of the original 1904 Abbey Theatre.  Excellent bit of work by noho.ie and Hugh Denard in researching the plans and layout. Would be interesting to see it in colour with some input from paint historians.

Permalink St. Macartan’s College, Monaghan - where I went to school. There are classroom blocks to the right now, from the 70s and 80s, and sports facilities off to the right. But the central original buildings and quadrangle are largely the same today as in the postcard. Building by Thomas Duff of Newry.
Permalink Portion of an unbuilt proposal for converting the Houses of Parliament in College Green to a new headquaters for the Bank of Ireland.  Quite a nice design.
